Leona started dancing at an early age with Slovenian Folkloric dance and continued on over the years, moving and grooving to different dance styles. She found Middle Eastern dance in 2001 and she knew she had found her dance form.
She has studied with and found inspiration from many dancers within her life: Venus, Rahma, Tamalyn Dallal, Bozenka, Jillina, Kaeshi of Bellyqueen, Ranya Renee, Roula, Suhaila Salimpour, Sharon Kihara, and Rachel Brice to name a few.
Leona is part of the popular and fiery Vancouver dance troupe Ala Nar and Director of Y Bellydance. Leona's experiences in bellydance are ever evolving and some key moments in her journey have been: being one of the feature dancers on the "Bellydance Workout" hosted by Omni Television, and performing on the Main Stage with Ala Nar at the International Bellydance Conference of Canada in 2010 and with Eastside Hips in 2012. She has been performing at the Kitsilano ShowBoat and the PNE for the past several years!
"Leona brings her vast joy of Middle Eastern dance to every class. Her knowledge and warmth reaches out to every participant, enabling all students to learn the technique, artistry and history of this dance form at their own pace and with genuine smiles and laughter. She is a truly gifted instructor and a wonderfully engaged performer" Cheryl Wellington
